Keeping Tea Fresh

One of our guiding principles at Jenier World of Teas is freshness. We passionately believe that the fresher the tea, the better it tastes. This is hardly rocket science, that same principle can be applied to most food and drink products, however it provides some specific challenges to tea. For a start tea is a global product. We literally search the world to select the finest tea leaves. Once tea has gone through the sourcing and picking process it arrives to with us to be blended and packed for delivery to customers. Our drive to deliver the freshest tea possible has led to a culture of innovation at Jenier World of Teas and we’ve created a process where we’re now not only able to preserve freshness we’re also able to reduce the carbon footprint of our product at the same time.
The system we developed is lovingly called ‘JenFresh’ and is designed to seal and store tea at optimum freshness. Jenfresh combines vacuum sealing with nitrogen flushing, one acting as a natural preservative the other providing security and locked-in freshness. Nitrogen is a naturally occurring gas with a number of beneficial properties. Most importantly for us it’s an inert gas and this means that it prevents oxidisation. By providing a gentle nitrogen flush to our tealeaves we are able to conserve and protect them and help retain their unique flavours and attributes.
Following this we vacuum seal the tea. This provides two benefits for the tea, and of course for the person who’ll ultimately drink it. Firstly, vacuum sealing, literally removing all the air from the pack, provides longevity. The longer any tea is exposed to air the more it loses its freshness and so its flavours. So a smooth nitrogen flush followed by immediate vacuum packing ensures Jenier Tea is as fresh as it can possibly be when it reaches you.
The other great benefit of vacuum sealing is the reduction in bulk of the product. Vacuum sealing ensures the finished pack is as small and neat as it’s possible to be. This reduces the size the product takes up when being shipped. Smaller packs take up less room, less room means more can be transported at the one time and so the cost, both financially and environmentally, is reduced. At a time when most organisations are looking to reduce their environmental impact this is another helpful benefit.
