Ceylon Gunpowder Green Tea - Loose

Ceylon Gunpowder Green Tea is of exceptionally good quality. From one of the top estates in Sri Lanka, the tightness of the leaves produces excellent flavour released when making tea. Due to the time and skill required to roll the leaves tightly in this manner, only a limited amount is produced. As a high-grown tea, the full-bodied flavour and character achieved with this tea are superb.

Production

The name 'gunpowder' derives from the unique process of rolling tea leaves into tiny pellets that resemble gunpowder produced through a distinctive process. The green tea leaves are plucked and then withered to reduce their moisture content before heat is applied to prevent any oxidation. Afterwards, the leaves are rolled tightly into small pellets. This process maintains the rich flavours of the leaves and allows for longer storage.
