Kenya Tinderet Broken Pekoe 1 (BP1) is a black tea produced by one of Kenya's best tea estates. Tinderet is proud of making teas with a purity of flavour and a malty edge. They have won prizes for their teas many times. This Broken Pekoe black tea is no different, with a full-bodied cup and wonderful, malty flavour that tastes good with milk.
BP1 Tea Grading Term
"Broken Pekoe #1" is what "BP1" stands for. This tea grading term is important in the tea business because it categorises different types of tea based on the size, shape, and quality of their leaves. Most of the time, BP1 refers to a broken, well-twisted tea with slightly larger pieces than the average Broken Pekoe manufactured using CTC( Cut, Torn and Curled) method.
Kenya Tinderet Tea Estate
The Tinderet Tea Estate began in 1956 and is about 2,000 metres above sea level on the western slopes of Kenya's Rift Valley. This high-altitude tea estate produces high-quality teas like Kenya Tinderet BP1 Black Tea because it has rich volcanic soil, a lot of rain, and lightning! The name Tinderet translates to 'place of lightning'. The gardens were planted with plant seeds from Tanzania, producing high-quality tea bushes.
In addition to its flourishing tea bushes, the Kenya Tinderet Estate has a significant advantage in making tea because of its high altitude, fertile soil, and good weather. High altitudes slow down tea bushes' growth, allowing the leaves to develop more flavour. As a result, the tea from the Kenya Tinderet Estate boasts a distinct taste and key attributes unmatched by other tea-producing regions.
