Margaret's Hope Darjeeling Tea (TGFOP) is a luxurious and eco-friendly tea that combines the taste of a premium second-flush Darjeeling with the ease of biodegradable, plastic-free pyramid tea bags. This tea is of the Tippy Golden, Flowery, Orange Pekoe (TGFOP) grade. It is grown on the Margaret's Hope Tea Estate lush slopes in Darjeeling. Each cup is rich and flavourful.
First-Flush Darjeeling vs. Second-Flush
First-flush Darjeeling teas are known for their light, floral, and refreshing taste. Second-flush Darjeeling teas, like Margaret's Hope, have a deeper flavour profile with an unmistakable muscatel character. During the second harvest season, from May to June, the tea plants soak up the rich nutrients and rain; this gives the tea its unique flavour.
Margaret's Hope Tea Estate: Altitude and Rainfall
The Margaret's Hope Tea Estate is between 3,000 and 6,800 feet above sea level and in the middle of Darjeeling. This high elevation and the fact that it rains about 120 inches a year make it the perfect place to grow the best tea leaves that have made Darjeeling teas famous worldwide.
Margaret's Hope: The Story Behind the Name
In honour of his daughter Margaret, the garden's manager, Mr Cruickshank, gave it the name Margaret's Hope at the beginning of the 20th century. Tragically, Margaret fell in love with the estate's beautiful scenery during a visit. However, on a return trip to the estate, she fell ill with a tropical disease and died. The estate was named Margaret's Hope in her honour, and its tea is still a reminder of how much she loved the area.
