Keyhung Tea Estate, Assam
Assam is famous around the world for its many tea estates. It is located in the Brahmaputra Valley. The area has a tropical climate with lots of rain and rich, loamy soil, which makes for an incredibly aromatic tea blend. Keyhung tea estate can be found in the remote northeast of Assam, between the Indian state of Arunachai Pradesh and the neighbouring country of Burma. The tea estate covers nearly 3 square miles, of which 2 are used to cultivate tea. On such a scale, it's no surprise that the Keyhung estate functions very much as a town for more than 10,000 people, who all depend on the estate for their livelihood. The tea estate management has created a real community to support all their workers and families, providing free hospitals, schools, and community centres. In addition, open fields are left for children to play on, and specific land is given to the estate families to grow their own fresh foods.
2nd Flush Assam Tea
As a 2nd Flush Assam, this tea is an excellent example of Assam Tea's variety. The 2nd Flush is known for having the best quality because it is grown during the best growing season, May to June. The perfect weather at this time of year helps the valuable "golden tips" grow on the tea leaves. These tips give the tea a honeyed taste and make the brew more complex and detailed, with interesting flavour notes.
The strength of Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) tea grade.
Everyday Assam Tea uses CTC Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP), which are smaller, broken tea leaves. They make for a stronger infusion and a more marked taste profile, so you can always count on a hearty cup of tea. Using a BOP grade is perfect for everyday use when serving strong, satisfying Assam tea.
